Tiemonium Methylsulfate 50 mg.

Composition
Each tablet contains Tiemonium Methylsulfate 50 mg.

Pharmacology
Tium (Tiemonium Methylsulfate) is an antispasmodic drug. It reduces the muscle spasm of the intestine, biliary system, bladder and uterus. Tium (Tiemonium Methylsulfate) is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is rapidly cleared from the blood and is distributed throughout the body. It is incompletely metabolized in the liver and is excreted in the urine as unchanged drug and metabolites. A half-life of about 4 hours has been reported.

Mode of Action
Tium (Tiemonium Methylsulfate) rapidly relieves spastic condition through the inhibition of intracellular proteins by competitively antagonizing acetylcholine and histamine and stabilizing the cell membrane by strengthening calcium bonding with membrane phospholipids and proteins.

Indications
Tium (Tiemonium Methylsulfate) is indicated for-

  • Tiumal pain
  • Muscle spasm of the intestine, biliary system, bladder & uterus
  • Pain in gastrointestinal and biliary diseases e.g. hepatocolic, colitis, gastric & duodenal ulcer & Acute pain
  • Gynecology and renal colic

Dosage & Administration
Tablet
Adult: Usual dose is 2-6 tablets

Contraindications
Tiemonium Methylsulfate should not be used in Glaucoma (acute pain of eyeball with vision disturbance), difficulty to urinate (disorders of prostate or bladder), tachycardia, myocardial infarction, pyloric stenosis and acute edema of the lung.

Precautions
Caution should be taken in case of chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, ambient hyperthermia, cardiac disorders, thyroid disorders, serious renal & hepatic insufficiency.

Side-effects
Side-effects include- dryness of mouth with difficulty in swallowing & thirst, difficulty with micturition & constipation, risk of hypotension & tachycardia, occasional retention of urine in excessive or overdoses.

Use in Pregnancy & Lactation:
This drug should never be used without specific instruction of the physician during pregnancy & breastfeeding.

Drug Interactions
The effects of Tiemonium Methylsulfate may be enhanced by the concomitant use of other drugs with antimuscarinic properties such as- amantadine, some antihistamines, phenothiazine, antipsychotics and antidepressants.

Overdosage
There is not available data regarding the overdose of Tiemonium Methylsulfate but there is a possibility of peripheral effects and other symptoms such as hyperthermia, hypertension, increased respiratory rate, nausea & vomiting may occur. A rash may appear on the face or upper trunk.

Storage
Store below 30ºC, Protected from light & moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
